About Dr. Davis Goodwine
Parents Zone Motto: "Parenting is about PRACTICE not PERFECTION!"
Passion & Purpose
Hello fellow Parents, Caregivers and Villagers!
My name is Darlene Davis Goodwine and I am the founder of Parents Zone, LLC, a resource and support service birthed out of my joys, failures, and lived experiences raising Black boys. I have a biological son and a bonus son who challenge me to rethink my approach to parenting. I am reminded daily of how difficult parenting can be and seek to create a space for parents/caregivers to align in the realization that "perfect parenting" is simply unattainable. And yet it hasn't stopped us from trying...
Parenting is a PRACTICE that relies on the awareness of our humanness and our access to resources and support. We at Parents Zone aim to assist those who value their role as parents/caregivers on their journey of raising physically healthy, emotionally sound, academically anchored, and socially adjusted youth, adolescents, and young adults.
As the founder and owner of Parents Zone, LLC, I promote Compassionate Parenting to facilitate effective parenting practices in response to daily hassles and common parenting challenges (e.g., emotional, behavioral, discipline) with sensitivity, love, and self-compassion.
We know that it takes a village and we invite you to join our parent community. Frederick Douglass was quoted as saying, "It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men".
CALL TO ACTION: Think about what that means to you on your parenting journey today...
Professional Background & Experience
You might be wondering what qualifies me to hold this space for myself and my fellow parents. My claim to this endeavor is securely grounded in my combined lens of both Parent and Professional.
Parenting: 6I have a 16-year old (bio) and an 11-year-old (bonus) son. In my role as a parent, I have served in various community roles as a classroom parent, community parent advocate, and school board parent representative.
As an active parent, I have gained both co-parenting and blended family parenting experiences. In raising Black boys, I have navigated experiences of bullying, child-centered advocacy within schools, academic challenges, racial identity development, low motivation, low self-confidence and esteem, anxiety, low mood, sexual identity development, internalized racism, colorism, communication barriers, relationship ruptures between adults and children, adjusting to family separations, and developing bonds in new family structures.
Professional: I have 20 years of professional experience (DMDG Resume) in the areas of child development, emotional and mental wellness, mild to severe psychological conditions, and effective parenting practices that promote the healthy development of children, youth, and young adults.
While I am trained and provide therapeutic services as a licensed clinical psychologist in my private practice (Aidan Behavioral Health & Consulting), at Parents Zone, LLC I provide sole parent coaching services that are informed by my educational background in Child Development and Family Relations, Rehabilitation Counseling, and Clinical Psychology, and my professional experience as an Early Childhood Educator, Parent Educator, Inpatient and Outpatient Substance Abuse/Dependence Counselor, Rehabilitation Counselor, and Inpatient and Outpatient Clinical Psychologist. As parents begin to practice Compassionate Parenting in their daily experiences, they gain the opportunity to experience relief from parenting stress, parenting guilt, and self-judgments.
